The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) is implementing murals as part of the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, advocating for raising the child custody age to 18. This activity falls under the project “Combating the Root Causes of Confronting Violence Against Women in the Gaza Strip,” funded by the Cordaid Foundation.

Ms. Wafaa Helles, the project coordinator, indicated that the initiative includes painting six murals in various public and densely populated areas of Gaza City. This aims to exert pressure for its approval by the Legislative Council, with the goal of assisting divorced and abandoned mothers in retaining custody of their sons and daughters until the age of 18, thereby ensuring the best interests of the children.

She explained that the Center is working during the campaign to implement three youth initiatives that include a number of the most important issues it has been working on over the past years, most notably (raising the child custody age, enacting a law to protect the family from violence). It is noteworthy that the initiatives are being implemented by a group of 20 young graduates.
