Job Announcement: Psychological Specialist – Women’s Protection and Empowerment Project in the Gaza Strip, Funded by OCHA

The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) is a feminist center providing legal advice, services, and education to women. It also offers protection to women survivors of violence and their children. Through its various programs and activities, the Center strives to develop community awareness and embody the recognition that women are essential partners to men in society, possessing equal rights.

The Center announces the need to recruit one (1) Psychological Specialist to work on the “Women’s Protection and Empowerment Project in the Gaza Strip,” funded by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), according to the following conditions:

Job Title: Psychological Specialist

Position: Full-time

Duration: 6 months

Purpose of the Job:

  • Providing individual or group psychological support and therapy to women and children who are victims of violence.
  • Understanding how to deal with children who are victims of psychological and sexual violence, with knowledge of psychological intervention mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of applying psychological tests concerning psychological scales for children.
  • Providing guidance.
  • Maintaining files.
  • Preparing reports.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • University degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree (in Psychotherapy or Psychoanalysis) is preferred.
  • Proven experience of no less than three years in supporting women and children who are victims of violence and providing them with treatment.
  • Good knowledge in supporting women prisoners and residents in shelters, those with experience in this field are preferred.
  • Experience in leading therapeutic groups, especially self-help groups, is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Palestinian context, especially the existing health and social systems.
  • Knowledge of innovative and advanced practices (even internationally) in providing support and treatment to abused women and children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the environment and dynamics prevailing in any shelter for victims of violence.
  • Experience in volunteer work supporting women or other experience working with or for women is particularly preferred.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Networking skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer usage.
  • Excellent command of Arabic, both written and spoken, and proficiency in English is preferred.

  • Strong motivation to work with women, a deep understanding of women’s environments and needs, and the ability to develop resources for the benefit of women from a feminist perspective.
  • The ability to adopt innovative/specific practices to support the psychological safety of women and children who are victims of violence.
  • The ability to promote solidarity consistently and avoid competitive behaviors.
  • Orientation and ability to work in a team.
  • Strong diplomatic and communication skills.
  • Ability to mediate in cases of conflict, and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make decisions in crisis situations.
  • The ability to develop and implement innovative practices to better serve women’s needs.
  • The ability to work with children and adolescents.
