CWLRCP Concludes Workshops on Promoting Women’s Rights in Gaza

The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) Concludes Workshops Under Project to Promote Women’s Rights According to Human Rights Methodology in the Gaza Strip

The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) has concluded field workshops implemented under the project “Promoting Women’s Rights According to Human Rights Methodology in the Gaza Strip,” funded by the Secretariat of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. The project aims to strengthen women’s rights and gender equality in the Gaza Strip based on human rights law and international humanitarian law.

Ms. Wafaa Helles, the project coordinator, noted that (60) field workshops were conducted in various community institutions, NGOs, and universities in the four governorates (North Governorate – Central Governorate – Khan Younis Governorate – Rafah Governorate). Through these workshops, the Center aimed to educate the targeted groups about women’s rights and protection in accordance with international humanitarian law and local laws.

She confirmed that a total of (2092) individuals were targeted, including housewives, male heads of households, university students, graduates, and working women. This included (1810) women and (282) men. The project also targeted (868) individuals in the age group (20-29), (509) in the age group (30-39), (443) in the age group (40-49), (216) in the age group (50-59), and (56) in the age group (60 and above).

Ms. Helles explained that legal assistance was provided to (184) abused women to educate them about their rights to protect them from violence. This included (168) legal consultations, in addition to legal representation in Sharia courts for abused women through workshops and women who come to the Center’s counseling unit. Judgments were obtained in a number of cases, and work is ongoing to restore women’s rights continuously by contacting them and following up on their cases to achieve their demands and protect them so they can obtain all their rights. In addition, health, psychological, and social consultations were also provided during the workshops and referred by the project lawyers to the Center, which in turn followed up and contacted the relevant authorities to assist the women.
