The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) has commenced the implementation of the “Promoting Women’s Rights for Equality” project, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The project aims to contribute to achieving equality in Palestinian society in the Gaza Strip by improving the level of knowledge of women’s rights as human rights and increasing community sensitivity towards women’s issues and rights.
Professor Zeinab Al-Ghunaimi, Director of the CWLRCP, emphasized that this project is a unique and novel experience because it is being implemented in partnership with four women’s organizations: The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP), the Women’s Affairs Center (WAC), the Women’s Affairs Technical Committee (WATC), and the Free Thought and Culture Foundation. She indicated that each organization will implement the activities relevant to its expertise during the project period. This partnership contributes to unifying the efforts of women’s organizations to provide a trained group of (80) women from the partner institutions with knowledge of women’s rights in various issues, enabling them to advocate for and change negative stereotypical attitudes towards women, as well as educating (1200) young women and their families.
She added that the project aims to develop understanding and knowledge of the issues facing marginalized women in poor areas, particularly concerning domestic violence, female dropout from schools, early marriage, and the rights of widows and divorcees, in addition to raising awareness among young women and families, including mothers and fathers, about women’s rights and domestic violence.
