CWLRCP Statement on International Women’s Day
CWLRCP Statement on International Women’s Day

CWLRCP extends its greetings and appreciation to the struggling women of Palestine, defenders of their rights wherever they may be in the homeland and diaspora. We salute the Palestinian feminist movement and the women of Palestine on all front lines and behind them.

We declare that your struggle brings us to March of this year, which is different, as it carries new achievements to be added to our honorable record. The Palestinian Council of Ministers has announced a package of measures in response to the demands of the feminist movement, in order to lift injustice from Palestinian women and stop discrimination against them:

  1. The right of Palestinian women to open bank accounts for their children.
  2. Her right to issue passports for them.
  3. Her right to transfer them from schools.
  4. Nomination and recommendation to abolish Article 308 of the Jordanian Penal Code in force in the West Bank, which exempts the rapist from punishment if he marries the victim.
  5. Adding a clause to Article 99 of the Jordanian Penal Code that prevents benefiting from mitigating circumstances in the penalty for perpetrators of so-called honor crimes.

We emphasize that we in the feminist movement are still making more effort to amend the laws in force in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and we demand the approval of the Family Protection from Violence Law, due to its great importance in protecting the rights of victims of domestic violence, and setting measures to protect women from all forms of violence committed against them on the basis of gender, and inflicting punishment on everyone who commits any form of violence, whether an act or failure to act, issued by a family member against other members. On this occasion, as the world celebrates International Women’s Day, we direct our message to the United Nations and call on its Secretary-General to commit to working to implement all resolutions issued by the bodies, institutions and funds of the United Nations regarding the Palestinian issue. We also call upon him and the international community to bear their responsibilities by standing by our just cause, restoring rights to their owners by ending the Israeli occupation, stopping the Judaization of Palestinian cities and villages, and stopping all methods of violence used by the Israeli occupation against our people, women, men, and children, and confronting the decisions of the American administration to reverse its decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem, because of the consequences of this decision, if it enters into force, will generate new forms of violence. We at CWLRCP say that our efforts continue to support Palestinian women and develop their legal, social and economic reality. Together towards more achievements and the elimination of discrimination in order to build a society that enjoys justice and equality. Greetings to the women of Palestine, greetings to women in all parts of the world. Glory and eternity to the souls of our martyrs, freedom for our brave prisoners, yes to our national unity, and rejection of disputes to build our independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
