CWLRCP Condemns the Murder of a Young Woman with Disability in Hebron and Demands Full Accountability

CWLRCP condemns the heinous crime that claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman with a disability from the city of Yatta in Hebron. Police in Hebron have arrested the victim’s mother on suspicion of committing the murder on the grounds of so-called “family honor.”

The Center condemns this crime against a helpless young woman with a disability and denounces her mother for killing her instead of being her protector and defender. It also demands that the perpetrator and any accomplices be punished. The Center calls on the official authorities to pursue the actual criminal who assaulted and raped the victim, exploiting her vulnerability as a person with a disability, so that he may serve as a deterrent to anyone who contemplates committing such crimes, in the interest of achieving justice.

The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection believes that all official and civil bodies should pay attention to people with disabilities and provide them with special care and protection from all forms of violence. It calls for strict legal measures to stop all forms of violence against women, especially rape and murder, to prevent criminals from escaping punishment by claiming to protect family honor. Foremost among these measures is the enforcement of the law, considering the murders of women as premeditated murder and rejecting any mitigating excuses that allow criminals to escape punishment.
