Palestine and Jordan Conclude Exchange Visit on Women’s Shelters

Today marked the conclusion of a four-day exchange visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan focused on protecting women subjected to violence. The visit was organized by The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) in Gaza, in coordination with the Jordanian Women’s Union. A delegation of 14 women working in institutions providing protection and shelter for women survivors of violence from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank participated, visiting governmental and non-governmental women’s shelters in Jordan.

The first day included a seminar to share expertise. On the second day, participants visited several shelters to learn about their experiences in protecting women from violence, and the nature of their protocols and interventions. These included centers affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development: the Family Reconciliation House, an integrated service center for victims of domestic violence, where Ms. Ibtihal Asbaitia, the director of the house, explained the intervention systems for protecting beneficiaries, and the Dignity House, a center for the protection of victims of human trafficking, where its director, Ms. Lana Al-Zaq, presented an explanation on the mechanism of protecting survivors of violence. On the third day, a visit was made to the Child Guest House and the Women’s Shelter, two centers run by the Jordanian Women’s Union.

At the conclusion of the activities, Ms. Islah Hassaniya, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP), expressed her deep gratitude to the Jordanian Women’s Union for the success of this visit and the achievement of its goal. She also presented Ms. Nadia Shamroukh, the Director-General of the Union, with a commemorative shield expressing the delegation’s thanks and appreciation, in the presence of Ms. Makram Odeh, the Executive Director of the Union, Ms. Najieh Al-Zoubi, Director of Counter-Violence Programs, and Ms. Maysar Ismail, Director of the Women’s Shelter.

It is noteworthy that this visit also included the Culture and Free Thought Association from Gaza, the Family Defense Association in Nablus, and the Center for the Protection and Empowerment of Women and the Family ( محور ) in Beit Sahour, within the project “A Holistic Approach to Comprehensive Protection Services for Women Survivors of Violence in Palestine,” implemented by The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP), in partnership with UN Women, and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
