Empowering Prosecutors: Training on Women’s Rights in Cases of Violence

The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) is conducting a training program for Public Prosecution employees (chiefs, agents, and assistants) entitled “Empowering Duty Bearers in the Public Prosecution for the Rights of Abused Women,” as part of the project “Improving Justice Sector Services for Abused Women in the Gaza Strip.”

Ms. Zeinab Al-Ghoneimi, Director of the Center, opened the training course and welcomed the attendees. She spoke about the nature of the Center’s work and the services it provides to women victims of violence, referring to the comprehensive and integrated protection services provided by the “Hayat Project” for the protection and empowerment of women and families. She pointed out the importance of joint and continuous cooperation between the Center and the Public Prosecution, especially since there is a great need for this cooperation in order to serve and protect the rights of abused women, explaining that this training is the result of previous trainings implemented by the Center with the Public Prosecution at the beginning of 2018, which achieved great success on the practical level.

For his part, Counselor Hossam Dakka, Head of the Technical Office in the Public Prosecution, praised the importance of the Center’s role in serving women victims of violence and its work on the ground. As a result, the activation of the shelter section in the “Hayat Project” for the protection and empowerment of women and families was approved to provide comprehensive protection services to women victims of violence. In addition, a number of abused women were transferred to the shelter section of the “Hayat Project” by the Public Prosecution. He spoke about the importance and seriousness of the relationship between the Center and the Public Prosecution.

The Project Coordinator, Ms. Wafa Halas, indicated that the Center is undertaking the implementation of training programs for Public Prosecution employees (chiefs, agents, assistants), divided into two training groups, with a total of (67) people, with (30) training hours per group over (5) training days.

She explained that the training program includes a number of important topics that were identified based on their needs, namely: (Women’s rights according to international conventions and covenants, gender-based violence, the nature of electronic crimes and hacking of networks and electronic devices that harm women and how to protect them, penal mediation or penal reconciliation in cases of violence against women, the Family Protection Unit and the National Referral System).
