Feminist and Rights Groups Meet with Attorney General

A Meeting Brings Together Representatives of Women’s and Human Rights Organizations with the Attorney General

A number of representatives from women’s and human rights organizations met with His Excellency Attorney General Counselor Diaa al-Din al-Madhoun in his office today. The meeting aimed to discuss the crimes targeting women in recent times and ways to cooperate in handling women’s complaints at the Public Prosecution headquarters and police stations.

His Excellency the Attorney General welcomed the delegation, which included Ms. Islah Hassaniya, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP), Ms. Zeinab al-Ghunaimi, Director of the Center, Ms. Amal Siam, Director of the Women’s Affairs Center, Ms. Rana al-Haddad, a member of the Bar Association Council, lawyer Ms. Imtiaz Hasballah, and Ms. Tahani Qassem, Community Access Coordinator in the “Hayat” Project. During the meeting, they presented a number of issues, including: closed cases of murdered women and problems with their investigations, the slow pace of trials for perpetrators, and the complaints of women reviewing their cases and their long waits in front of the Public Prosecution offices.

They also expressed the readiness of their organizations to provide lawyers to defend women who need advocacy and representation before the courts, as part of the work of these organizations, and that the Public Prosecution could utilize these lawyers to defend these women.

His Excellency the Attorney General affirmed the clear working methodology of the Public Prosecution, noting that a number of measures have been taken to ensure transparency, establish the truth, and achieve justice for women and men, promising that the Public Prosecution will be in constant contact to serve the community.
