The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) concluded a specialized training program for Sharia arbitrators as part of a series of trainings for Sharia arbitrators in Sharia courts. This falls within the training programs implemented by the Center, specifically aimed at “empowering duty-bearers within official bodies to protect the rights of abused women.”

Project Coordinator, Ms. Zikra Ajjour, indicated that the trainings targeted twenty (20) Sharia arbitrators, who were trained over five (5) training days, totaling twenty (20) training hours per group. They were trained on the following topics: (Gender-Based Violence, the level of legal protection – and international laws and agreements – referral pathways in the referral system specific to shelters, the Hayat Center system for the protection and empowerment of women and families, the Sharia ruling guide in women’s cases, the principles of Sharia trials and lawsuits in women’s cases, drafting the arbitration agreement (practical applications), and divorce by court order in women’s cases).

These trainings are part of the project to improve justice sector services for women in the Gaza Strip, which is implemented by the Center with the aim of supporting the development of the technical capacities of judicial bodies active on the basis of human rights, and improving women’s access to justice and protection services.

At the end of the training, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the arbitrators, in recognition of their efforts and participation during the training days.
