A delegation from The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) and the Women’s Affairs Center visited the Women’s Reform and Rehabilitation Center in Gaza today. The visit aimed to assess the needs of the female inmates in order to provide assistance and support in various legal, social, psychological, and economic matters.
Ms. Zeinab Al-Ghoneimi, Director of The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP), stated that this visit is part of the center’s work, which aims to consolidate the culture of human rights in Palestinian society and assist women in general. She emphasized that the center will provide legal services to these women, including representing them before the courts if the inmates request this service and if the center’s intervention is required. This will be done through coordination with the administration of the Reform and Rehabilitation Center, and by providing legal services to the female staff working directly with the female inmates to contribute to the development of their work.
In addition, the center will provide psychological and social support services to the women, given their need for it, to help them overcome their problems, stand by them, and try to integrate them into society in the future. The Women’s Affairs Center will also work to determine the appropriate intervention for this group through follow-up and coordination with the Reform Center administration in the coming period.
Ms. Amal Nofal, Director of the Reform and Rehabilitation Center, welcomed the two delegations, stressing the importance of this visit in helping the female inmates and providing programs and services to improve their situation and alleviate their suffering, considering them women who need assistance, even if they have committed mistakes and crimes punishable by law.
