CWLRCP Concludes Physiotherapy Training for Specialists

On December 15, 2016, The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) in Gaza concluded a psychodrama training course for physiotherapy specialists. This course aimed to alleviate psychological stress experienced by physiotherapy providers due to the nature of their work with women with disabilities who survived the 2014 aggression on the Gaza Strip. The training was implemented as part of the project “Supporting Sustainable Empowerment and Protection Services for Victims and Survivors of Violence,” which is implemented by the Center in partnership with UN Women and funded by Spanish Cooperation.

Eng. Sanabel Abu Saeed, the project coordinator, emphasized that the project aims to improve the integration of women survivors of violence and women with disabilities into society by providing them with social, economic, psychological, and legal support. This aims to contribute to improving the status of women and ensuring the full integration of survivors of gender-based violence and women with disabilities into society.

She noted that the project also aims to provide physiotherapy and medical services to women with disabilities, meeting their needs for assistive medical devices and medications.

Eng. Abu Saeed pointed out that the training course was implemented at the “Hayat” project headquarters for the protection and empowerment of women and families, by its team of specialists. The course comprised 12 hours over four training days for (7) physiotherapy specialists from the Palestinian Physiotherapy Society, who provided services to women with disabilities after the 2014 aggression in cooperation with The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) and all other official and non-official institutions and bodies. She indicated that the aim of the training course is to empower specialists with stress management strategies, develop their mental and personal abilities, enable them to acquire the ability to develop participatory foundations for stress management, in addition to introducing them to the concept and mechanisms of conflict resolution, and empowering them to connect and communicate with themselves, express themselves, and the problems and pressures surrounding them.

It is worth mentioning that the “Hayat” project for the protection and empowerment of women and families is one of the projects of The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP), which was established as a multi-purpose center aimed at protecting women from gender-based violence in the Gaza Strip and empowering them to reintegrate into the family and society.
