The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) concluded yesterday its project, “Enhancing Legal Protection for Marginalized Women in the Gaza Strip,” in cooperation with the “Nizam” project funded by USAID.
Islah Hassanieh, the head of the CWLRCP’s board of directors, explained that the project stems from the center’s mission and goals, which emphasize that women are fundamental partners to men in building Palestinian society on democratic foundations. She added that the center, through this project, sought to disseminate legal awareness in society and raise awareness of women’s rights to contribute to providing greater protection for the rights of marginalized women in the Gaza Strip.
Abdul Rahman Al-Asouli, the coordinator of the Nizam project in the Gaza Strip, pointed to the results achieved by the project through its activities, which were implemented over eight months in all regions and governorates of the Gaza Strip.
For her part, Zeinab Al-Ghunaimi, the director of the center, praised the contribution of women’s and civil society organizations to the center’s projects, noting the center’s commitment to participatory and collaborative work with these institutions. She expressed her hope for the continuation of this cooperation in future projects that the center intends to implement in the near future.
Tahani Qassem, the project coordinator, presented the project’s objectives and the phases that were implemented during its duration. A documentary film showcasing the project’s activities was screened.
Researchers presented a summary of their five research papers, which were produced in a book titled “Palestinian Women in the Gaza Strip Between Reality and Law.” The research titles are:
“Working Women Between Reality and Law,”
“Consanguineous Marriage: Its Causes and Effects,”
“Divorce: Its Causes and Effects,”
“The Reality of Legal Education for Women,” and
“The Role of Institutions Supporting Women.”
At the conclusion of the conference, project certificates were distributed to the male and female lawyers who participated in the project’s activities.
