The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) organized a recreational day for (50) women who are victims and survivors of violence from the governorates of Gaza and North Gaza. The event took place on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the Blue Beach Resort, as part of the “Protection and Empowerment of Women in the Gaza Strip” project. This project is funded by the United Nations Humanitarian Fund projects, with generous support from Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Ms. Wafaa Helles, the project coordinator, indicated that the center, through this project, seeks to achieve its primary goal: to improve the access of women and girls who are victims and survivors of violence in the Gaza Strip to comprehensive protection services based on human rights standards. She clarified that the main objective of implementing this activity is to provide psychosocial support to affected women and girls by allocating a complete program of psychosocial support to alleviate their distress.
She emphasized that the project’s psychosocial specialists, in addition to specialists from the “Hayat” project for the protection and empowerment of women and families, had prepared a comprehensive program to ensure the success of this activity. This included a variety of activities, such as dividing the women into four groups and implementing several activities with each group. The most important of these was an introductory session among members of each group to break the ice and identify the problems faced by the women, allowing them to benefit from each other’s experiences. In addition, a psychodrama activity was implemented to reduce the severity of their suffering.
It is noted that symbolic gifts were presented to a number of women at the end of the day. The women expressed their overwhelming joy and great satisfaction towards the center for implementing this activity for them. Helles clarified that a similar activity is scheduled to be implemented next month for (50) women who are victims and survivors of violence in the governorates of Central Gaza, Khan Yunis, and Rafah.
