CWLRCP Launches Project to Bolster Legal Safeguards for Marginalized Women in Gaza

The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) today inaugurated the project “Enhancing Legal Protection for Marginalized Women in the Gaza Strip” in cooperation with the USAID-funded “Nizam” Project.

The project aims to contribute to providing legal protection for marginalized women in the Gaza Strip through legal awareness initiatives for women, improving the capabilities of lawyers in applying family law, promoting legal culture within the community, and increasing societal sensitivity towards women’s rights, particularly those related to family law.

Ms. Zeinab Al-Ghoneimi, Director of the Center, explained that the project aims to train 15 lawyers in personal status law, covering topics such as marriage, divorce, alimony, child custody, and inheritance, in addition to gender issues and gender-sensitive readings of personal status law. They will also receive Training of Trainers (TOT) instruction.

Al-Ghoneimi added that five lawyers will be trained on “scientific research procedures” to produce five research papers on the status of women in personal status law and gender issues. In addition, five meetings targeting 150 law students from universities will be held on the subject of personal status law. Furthermore, 2,000 women will be educated about personal status law through workshops conducted by the lawyers trained during the project, in cooperation with local and women’s organizations in the Gaza Strip.
