CWLRCP Launches Training Program for Sharia Court Judges

The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) is conducting a training course titled “Empowering Duty-Bearers from Sharia Judges to Protect the Rights of Abused Women,” as part of the project “Improving Justice Sector Services for Abused Women in the Gaza Strip.”

Ms. Islah Hassanieh, Chairperson of the CWLRCP’s Board of Directors, opened the training course, welcomed the attendees, and spoke about the nature of the center’s work in serving women. She pointed to the importance of joint cooperation with the Sharia judiciary to protect the rights of abused women.

For his part, Dr. Saeed Abu al-Jubain, Head of the Technical Office and Judicial Inspection and Member of the Supreme Sharia Court, praised the center’s role in serving women since its establishment. He spoke about the importance and seriousness of the relationship between the center and the Supreme Council of the Sharia Judiciary, noting that the center is considered one of the first institutions to propose and discuss many issues related to the interests of women, such as raising the age of custody.

The project coordinator, Ms. Wafa Helles, indicated that the center is proceeding with the implementation of training programs for judges of Sharia courts, divided into two training groups. The first group, which the center is currently training, consists of (18) heads of registries and directors of execution, with (27) training hours over (9) days.

She explained that work with the second group will begin immediately after the completion of the first group, which targets (judges of the Supreme, Appeal, and First Instance courts), where it is proposed to complete the training for both groups during the current month.
