CWLRCP Opens Training on Empowering Public Prosecutors in Cases of Violence Against Women

Today, The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) inaugurated a training course aimed at empowering duty bearers in the Public Prosecution Office on issues related to battered women. This initiative falls under the project “Improving Justice Sector Services for Battered Women in the Gaza Strip.”

Mr. Alaa Shablaq, Head of the Training Unit in the Technical Office of the Public Prosecution Office, stated: “The renewal of cooperation between the Public Prosecution Office and The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) comes within the framework of creating an atmosphere that is compatible with the center and civil society organizations working to serve battered women, in line with the nature of the Public Prosecution Office’s role in achieving civil peace.” He added, “We seek to achieve societal stability, whether the women are complainants or victims of crime, so that they have protection and care and are treated in accordance with the privacy of women in the circumstances of their detention and achieving procedural justice in dealing with women.”

For her part, Ms. Zeinab Al-Ghunaimi, Director of The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP), appreciated the joint cooperation with the Public Prosecution Office and its results in serving society in general and women in particular, and the achieved goal of providing protection for women victims of violence.

This training course targets (39) participants from assistant prosecutors and prosecutors, who will be trained in two groups with a total of (48) training hours over (12) training days, with (24) training hours for each group, spread over (6) training days. The topics covered include gender-based violence, the level of legal protection – the draft law on protecting the family from violence model, referral pathways in the referral system for shelters, the Hayat Center system for the protection and empowerment of women and families, the principles of investigating crimes of killing women practically, managing the crime scene in cases of killing women, distinguishing between assaults, quarrels, wounds and grievous bodily harm in women’s cases, the principles of investigating electronic crimes related to women’s cases, and fraud and deception in cases directed at women.
