CWLRCP Provides Legal Aid to Women in Gaza

The Center for Women’s Legal Researches, Counselling and Protection (CWLRCP) is implementing the “Legal Aid for Women in the Gaza Strip” project, funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Rule of Law and Access to Justice Programme. The project aims to support divorced and abused women by empowering them legally and socially and increasing their awareness of their legal rights through project activities and programs.

Project Coordinator Ghada Al-Sous stated that the center seeks, through the project, to qualify and empower lawyers, equip them with communication skills with the target group, and enable them to conduct workshops on women’s family rights. This is intended to defend divorced and abused women through legal advice, with the aim of contributing to raising public awareness towards recognizing women’s rights as equal to men’s rights in family matters.

She explained that the project also aims to promote women’s rights to reduce discrimination against them and increase women’s access to justice through legal advice and legal representation in courts, in addition to the legal empowerment of divorced and abused women.

The coordinator noted that the project stemmed from the work of the Legal Advice Unit at the center, which provides legal advice and support services to women and free advocacy for them before the courts and official bodies.

She pointed out that a training course was conducted, targeting (20) lawyers, who were trained in personal status law (marriage, divorce, inheritance). In addition, they received Training of Trainers (TOT) instruction.
